Welcome to Harrisburg.
Divided by the legendary Susquehanna River, Pennsylvania's picture-perfect state capitol offers a wonderful way of life on both shores. Downtown Harrisburg keeps up a vibrant pace with its thriving business district, hip nightlife, convenient air and rail connections, and majestic Capitol Building. Hershey, PA, home of Hershey Foods and one of the many picturesque towns of Dauphin County, draws legions of admiring visitors and enthusiastic residents.
Across the river, quiet, tree-lined lanes and beautiful skyline views grace some of Harrisburg's oldest neighborhoods. Modern convenience shares space with quaint, time-honored villages, where you can steep yourself in the region's rich history at every turn. But there's no doubt that the West Shore also has a firm hold on the future; Cumberland is the fastest growing county in the region, playing host to major national companies like Ralston, Purina and Rite Aid.
Whichever shore you choose, Harrisburg is a fantastic location for career,
family and fun.
Want an authentic Harrisburg experience? Try one of these classic outings:
Car Country Carlisle
Spend the summer revving your motor as the historic town of Carlisle hosts a season of car shows from April through August. From vintage imports to custom trucks and cherried-out Corvettes, the shows draw over 500,000 car lovers every year.
Be-Seen Saturday
Downtown Harrisburg is abuzz with nightlife almost every day of the week, but Fridays and Saturdays are the best time to see and be seen. Chew on dinner and a little bit of history at The Firehouse (the second-oldest firehouse in PA), then sip your cocktails over jazz at the French Quarter. Cap off the night with dessert wine, cigars and conversation at The Red Door.
Relive the Rebel Invasion
The Civil War left its mark on Harrisburg, as Cumberland Valley set the stage for the Confederate Invasion of 1863. Spend a weekend touring the battle sites at Shippensburg, Carlisle, Sporting Hill and even Gettysburg (just 30 minutes away), or get the big picture at the acclaimed National Civil War Museum, an interactive account of both sides of the story.
