Welcome to York County.
Pursuing a career, raising a family, retiring in style: regardless of what brings you to York, you may be surprised at just how much this charming county has to offer. Long a hub of manufacturing in Pennsylvania, York plays host to major employers like Harley Davidson, Frito-Lay, Starbucks, York International and Pfaltzgraff. York's school districts are widely regarded as some of the best in the region, a major draw for the diverse inhabitants of the area's quiet suburban neighborhoods. Parks, museums, wineries, antique shops, outlets and factory tours offer an endless array of weekend activities. And with the majestic Rocky Ridge in the distance, York's natural beauty remains in focus from the first buds of Spring through the golden leaves of Fall.
Want an authentic York County experience? Try one of these classic outings:
Paddling in the Park
Rent one of Kain County Park's canoes or paddleboats to make your way around the lakes with the kids. If water's not your element, take a hike through the 1,600 acres of Nature that make up the park's grounds. You'll no doubt cross paths with Scout troops, fishermen, and other outdoorsy families as you wind your way through the day.
Appetizers, Art and Dinner for Two
Start the month's first Friday night in style, perusing the galleries and shops of York's quaint downtown district (they're open late with live music and goodies). Then finish the evening with dinner at the swanky Left Bank, or catch a lively burger and a pint at the Harp and Fiddle.
Weekend History Lesson
York County Colonial Courthouse is where the Continental Congress gathered to form the "United States of America" on November 15, 1777. Take a stroll through the historic downtown building, followed by a walk down the block to see the Golden Plough Tavern, General Gates House and Bobb Log House, three excellent examples of 18th century PA architecture. The 1700's too far back for your taste? Visit the unforgettable Bob Hoffman Weightlifting Hall of Fame, named in honor of the owner of York Barbell Company.
